Initial Session: Taking Progress Photos
Progress photos are an important feedback tool that helps to document the health and fitness journey of the client. Photos provide a visual representation of the effort they are investing into the process and the results they are achieving. To accurately depict change over time, it is essential to maintain consistency in the composition of the photos. Standardizing the process will ensure that the images follow a consistent structure, enabling clients to see tangible evidence of their improvements as well as highlight your achievements as a coach.
Additionally, it is vital to explain to the client that these photos will not be shared with anyone without their consent and that they are only meant to document their journey.
Attire
Male: Shorts
Female: Sports bar and leggings or shorts
- Waistband pulled down to just below the hip bones.
- Longer sports bra that cover up midsection should be folded under the breast.
Always ensure that the client wears the same clothes. This is especially important for female clients so please remind them when planning to take progress photos.
The amount of clothing worn for photos will ultimately be up to the client. If, after explaining to the client that these photos will not be shared with anyone and the intent is only to document their journey, they do not feel comfortable removing clothing, do not argue. Take the photos at the level the client is comfortable with.
Proper set up for client photos:
- Client stands 2-3 inches from wall for every pose.
- Client is relaxed and not sucking in or flexing.
- Coach’s back against door.
- Align camera to chest height of client and phone held straight by lining up bottom of picture with line between floor and wall.
- Don't tilt or angle, it should be held perfectly parallel to client.
