Reassessing Body Composition
Reassessing Body Composition is important because it provides feedback as to whether the chosen plan of action is working effectively, and as a tool to motivate clients to stick to the program. Intervals (or length of time between measurements) for reassessing body composition are not fixed as each client will come with their own timeline attached to their goal. Generally, the shorter the timeline, the more frequently the coach will need to reassess the clients body composition. The default interval will be to reassess body composition every 2 weeks, however for clients that have an extended timeline (8-12 months) it is not uncommon to measure once a month. The caveat here, is that the more frequent measurements, the more information the coach has about the effectiveness of the program overall and make changes accordingly.
Regardless of the interval, the InBody will be used with each scheduled measurement. Additional measurements can be added to supply coach with more data, such as skin folds, or circumference measurements.
There will be a number of clients who attach themselves too tightly to body composition metrics. Seeing the numbers not move as they'd wish does the opposite of motivate them and sometimes leads to self-sabotage with diet or lifestyle based decisions. These are special situations that will need to be handled delicately based on the specific issues the client is having with the process as a whole. For some, it may be as simple as not letting them see the numbers on the scale, and with others it may be necessary to avoid measuring for a while altogether to allow for a psychological break. If a client is dreading their measurement day, be sure to reach out to senior coaches for advice.
